Ben Greenwood Obituary

Mr. Ben Greenwood, age 32, of Buies Creek died Sunday, November 29, 2009 at his home. Ben was born in North Carolina and grew up in Oklahoma for the early years; there he developed a love of the outdoors, becoming an avid fisherman and hiker. Ben was an active runner, going 15—20 miles several times a week. When the family returned to North Carolina he learned to kayak on the rivers and streams here. He developed strong lifelong friendships and everyone would say they had never met a kinder person than he. For quite some time Ben suffered from an unexplained illness that affected his physical stamina, yet never changed the kindness and thoughtfulness shown to others. The cancer that took his life was believed to have been the cause of much of these problems, and when finally diagnosed was too late to treat. Ben came home from an extended hospital stay and was surrounded by loving friends and family in his last days. We know he has gone to a better place; we expect to see him later catching bass in a lake or kayaking down the rapids. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2009, at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington, the Rev. Dr. David Whiteman will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 485, Buies Creek, NC 27506 or The American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27615. Survivors are his parents, Robert Benjamin and Diane Ferenczi Greenwood of Buies Creek; sister, Amanda Marie Greenwood of Holly Springs; uncles and aunts, Frederick R. and Elida Greenwood of Brownsville, Texas; Jack and Linda Ferenczi of Charlotte, Sara Greenwood of Kittrell, and a large circle of cousins and friends. Funeral arrangements entrusted to O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home. Online condolences at www.oquinnpeebles.com

Even though us mythical beasts did not know you personally, it is so clear how special you were in life. Your impact on Rhett and Link shines so brightly all these decades later, and has now left an impact on us. May you always be remembered as a shining light and forever encourage the spark of curiousity!

Ben Greenwood, you live on in the hearts of more people than you will ever know. In the short time you had, you created legacies through your friends, Rhett and Link, and according to their recollection, you lived a brighter life than most do in twice the time. The community of Mythical would never have existed, let alone brought together millions of people, had you not sparked the curiosity, creativity and tomfoolery that you did in them, and with their continuation of your mythicality, they have done the same for all of their fans. Though I am not one to speak, not having known you personally, I can assure you that, had your life been granted the longevity it deserved, the world would have been a better, brighter, more magical, and more mythical place, but even now, you have created a larger impact than you would've ever imagined. I hope that the abundant impact you made on those around you while you were still alive satisfied your human desire to have a purpose because now, in the after-effects of your influence, it is clear that not only did you deserve that satisfaction, it was your birthright and wouldn't suffice had you felt it tenfold. I hope you watch from wherever you are now and know that your time on Earth made a difference to so many lives and I hope the place from where you watch has plenty of rivers and trees, places to fish, places to run, I hope that now, in your eternal rest, you can do whatever it was you dreamed of that you couldn't do, whatever it was you researched and would've loved to experience. I wish you and your family peace and joy and abundance. Thank you, Ben, for everything you ever did, for living.

I just saw the podcast that Rhett and Link made about you and I just want to thank you for being such a genuine human being. It was hard not to cry but it was incredibly beautiful to hear the stories of your many adventures together. You truly inspired rhett and link to be their best and you continue to inspire them and their fans even to this day

Dear Ben, I hope you are somewhere outdoors fishing, exploring, adventuring. I didn't know you personally but hearing about your life through Rhett and Link was truly touching. I'm sure they barely touched the surface on how amazing you were. May you rest in peace

I just finished the podcast episode where your friends Rhett and Link talked about your life. It was cut so short but I can tell that you definitely made a positive impact on the world. It is clear how beautiful your soul is and you will forever be missed by many.

I just watched Rhett and Links podcast like many others. I cried and feel you are a beautiful soul. That podcast spoke personally to me and I feel may have been a wake up call for me. I need to be more present in peoples lives. Thank you for your message.
I also hope Rhett and Link know that they too, through telling of your life have reached many people. Maybe even more this way than originally thought with spreading the good news... they still are doing this but with their absolute love for you. That message is strong and it´s simple.... Just love others, be present, and be kind.
Thank you.

Touched by your life story and how many lives you touched in such a relatively short time. Like Rhett said "We all have Ben's in our lives" make sure you tell them how much you appreciate and love them. Thank You for reminding me and everyone what truly is important in life!

His life was not wasted, he lived and flourished. Ben touched and changed everyone's life who got the pleasure of knowing him. His laugh and smile were bright and he will never be forgotten. A life taken too soon but his memory will live on. Fly high and all my condolences to his family.

I’m sorry you had to leave so early, I’ve had someone leave too for the same crappy reason. Maybe one day our future society won’t have to go through losing loved ones like your family/friends have. You seemed like a truly amazing soul from the stuff I just heard from your two best friends. I hope you were reincarnated into something mythical, you deserve it.

Dear Ben, I don't know you but you were a great friend to two of my heroes, Rhett and Link. May your soul find peace wherever it may go. May it go to a better place. A place deserving of another mythical soul.

Dear Bob and family, I have been thinking about you since I spoke with you in the tunnel at Duke Hospital. There are no words to express the sorrow and emptiness from losing a child. I know that life will not be the same without Ben but I also know that there are no better parents. My thoughts will continually be with you during this time. If there is anything I can do, please do not hesitate to contact me.
