Raleigh
Betsy Barton Riddle Dowd, 94, died Tuesday. A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late George and Katherine Riddle. She grew up in Historic Oakwood in Raleigh and attended Hugh Morson High School. She retired from the US Postal Service and was a longtime member of the Eastern Star.
The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 pm Friday prior to the service at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Survivors include her children, Rodney-Ann Ashworth, Gerry Dowd, Kathy Wiggins and Marty Rooney; grandchildren, Jeff and Scott Woodlief, Austin and Jackson Dowd, Shawn and Kevin Rooney, as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dowd was preceded in death by her husband, Furman Dowd; siblings, Mary Brown, Dorothy Womble, Katherine Tharp, George Riddle and Richard Riddle; grandsons, Mark Woodlief and Patrick Rooney.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Raleigh Salvation Army.

We lived next door to Betsy for 26 years.
She was a wonderful neighbor and a very fine person, She was my husband's gardening
friend and she and I talked about family
history. We missed having her next door
since the day she moved.

I am sorry to hear about Betsy, she was my fathers Edwin K Riddle 1st cousin. We met several years ago and talked about the Riddle history in Raleigh. She was a great lady.
