Raleigh, North Carolina - Betty Blackard Averette, age 84, passed away on June 8, 2025. She was born December 5, 1940, in Wake County, to the late George Tharp Blackard and Annie Laurie Watkins Blackard.

Betty is survived by her husband, John Alexander Averette; daughter, Jill A. Talley (Mike); sons: Stephen Averette (Shelley), Mark Averette (Sonya); six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Kay B. Schrum (David).

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 am, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church, 3328 Forestville Road, Raleigh, NC 27616. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:15 am, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church.

Our deepest sympathy to you for your loss of someone so precious and dear. I worked with her for twenty three years at Knightdale Elementary School. She was a very dedicated and supportive teacher. May your many memories of her bring you comfort and peace.
