Cad Walder Arrendell, Jr.

Black Mountain

Cad Walder Arrendell, Jr., (C.W.) was born on July 24, 1917, in Ponca City, OK, the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. C.W. Arrendell. He attended the Ponca City schools and was graduated from Choate School, Wallingford, CT, in 1935, and from Brown University, Providence RI, in 1939. He was graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine in 1945 and served an internship at the US Naval Hospital, Norman, OK. He served aboard the USS St. Croix as medical officer for one year and then as a medical officer at the US Navy Disciplinary Barracks, Long Beach, CA.

On April 7, 1948, he was married to Charlotte E. Crawford at St. James Episcopal Church in Black Mountain, NC. The couple lived in Tulsa, OK, for one year while he served as surgical resident at St. John's Hospital there. He practiced general medicine at the Arrendell Clinic in Ponca City, OK with his father and brother from 1949 to 1951. From 1951 to 1954 he trained as general surgery resident at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation Clinic and Hospital in New Orleans, LA. He was certified as a member of the American Board of General Surgery.

He conducted a practice in general surgery in Charlotte, NC, from 1955 until retiring to Black Mountain, NC in 1982.

He is survived by his wife Charlotte and daughters Amy Arrendell, Asheville, NC, and Susan Arrendell, Raleigh, NC, as well as four grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 1 step great-grandchild, two nephews, a great nephew and a great niece. He was predeceased by his son, John Arrendell.

He enjoyed golf and American Rules Croquet as well as backyard croquet and was a member of the Black Mountain Croquet Club. He sang in the choir at the Presbyterian church as a boy and in the Glee Club at Brown University, and in the Barbershop Chorus (SPEBSA) in Charlotte. He also enjoyed reading and bridge and painting with watercolors. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Black Mountain.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 21, at 3:00 pm in the Assembly Room at Givens/Highland Farms Retirement Community, 200 Tabernacle Road, Black Mountain, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. James Episcopal Church, PO Box 1087, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
