March 27, 1947 - August 13, 2025
Durham, North Carolina - Carol Wells Rabon, 78, of Durham, NC passed away on August 13, 2025, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.
Carol is survived by her husband, Jerry Lee Rabon; daughter, Nicole Rabon of Durham; sister, Nikki Wells of Santa Fe, New Mexico; cousin, Joy Shioleno; aunt, Rose Bishop; and many other family members.
Carol knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. She graduated from Appalachian State University in 1969 and earned a Master's Degree in Reading from UNC in 1978. During her 46-year teaching career, Carol directed her love, talent, and time toward teaching often disadvantaged young children and was rewarded with the affection of hundreds of young students and the respect and friendship of her professional colleagues. Carol was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she pursued singing, her second passion in life, by serving as a member of the ensemble and choir and as the Music Director of Vacation Bible School. Carol was an avid traveler, having spent months on the road with her daughter and parents in their RV, traveling with her husband around the US and Canada, and traveling with her mother and sister to France and England, and with her sister to Spain, Italy and all the countries between Amsterdam and Budapest. Carol was a remarkable and devoted caregiver to her late mother and was likewise committed to caring for her daughter Nicole, who suffers from a serious illness. Carol loved her pets, especially her rescue schnauzer Lexie, who sadly died in 2016, but was never forgotten. Carol was a wonderful social person who focused her life on her Christian faith and her family, friends, neighbors, and students. Her family sends their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Hardihood and the nurses, techs and other staff of the Cancer Clinic at Durham Regional Hospital for their loving care and friendship.
