Cecil Maynard Howard, Sr., 75, went home peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2017. Cecil, son of the late Maynard T. Howard and Ethel W. Howard was born April 18, 1941, in Granville County. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years Rubie Dale Watkins Howard; daughters: Lounell (Kip) Stallings of Oxford, NC, Helen (Tim) Brummitt of Oxford, NC; sons, Zach (Emily) Howard of Raleigh, NC, and Cecil (Hope) Howard, Jr. of Henderson, NC; grandchildren: Brian and Lance Stallings, Ashton (William) Hobgood, Hope (Jacob) Seymour, Carson, Elizabeth, and Sydney Howard and Ava and Carly Howard; as well as great-grandchildren; Avery Hobgood and Kennedy Seymour. He is also survived by his sisters Nell Blackwell of Oxford, NC and Joyce (Corbett) Capps of Macon, NC and numerous extended family members.
Cecil graduated from Oak Hill School and attended East Carolina College before joining Carolina Telephone as a Yellow Page representative. He then joined the tobacco industry working as a sales representative with Liggett & Myers, National Tobacco Company, and retired from Swedish Match North America. Cecil loved the game of golf and played all his adult life. He was devoted to his family, always putting his family first. He was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 30, 2017, at 3:00pm at Gentry Newell Vaughan Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home the day of the funeral at 1:00 pm and at other times at the home located at 210 Hunters Road, Oxford, NC.

William and I are so very sorry for your loss! Losing a parent or grand parent is the hardest thing to accept. They are the roots of our existence and foundation for us to stand proudly because of their sacrifice and their love for us! Hold his memory close to you and know that he is in GOD'S care. Dear Howard family and to all the others that are suffering.
I know it is hard, oh so hard, but remember where he is now and how he is feeling . He is indeed fine. We are the ones that are hurting. I pray for your continued strength
Charles also took his last breath at Hock House just 3 months ago. What a wonderful place. I am so glad we were there and I am sure you are too. They are allowed to go to their heavenly home is dignity and peace.
