Charles Clarence Braswell, 82, of Cary, died Tuesday, August 26, at Cary Wake Med Hospital. He was born on May 31, 1926, in Raleigh, to the late Clarence Odell Braswell and Levie Ann Murdock.
Charlie was a loving husband, devoted father, caring grandfather and great-grandfather, and loyal friend. He believed in the ethic of hard work and enjoyed playing golf and bridge. He was dedicated to his church and proud of his country.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Julia Hamilton Braswell; four daughters, Linda Brown (David) of Wrightsville Beach and Blowing Rock, Bonnie Trivette (Danny) of Cary, Marcia St. Clair (David) of Emory, VA, Martha Wolfenbarger (Billy) of Sanford; brother, J. Swanson Braswell (Hannah) of Durham; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In 1945 Mr. Braswell graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Duke University. He retired from North Carolina State University as Director of the Physical Plant in 1988 and. previously was Physical Plant Director at Appalachian State University. He was twice President of the Southeastern Regional Association of Physical Plant Directors and Administrators and later served as President of the National Association of Physical Plant Administrators of Universities and Colleges from 1983-1984 and received its Meritorious Service Award. He was appointed to the first North Carolina Building Commission.
Mr. Braswell was a member of Highland United Methodist Church and served on the Board of the Methodist Home for Children. He also was a member of McGregor Downs Country Club, the University Club at NCSU, and a past member of the Raleigh Host Lions Club.
Visitation will 7:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Cary.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2008 at Highland United Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607. Burial immediately following at Raleigh Memorial Park.
