C. R. "Bob" Craddock, 93, enjoyed a long, full life and died peacefully on Sunday evening, May 28, 2017. He was a tall, friendly man with a deep voice and ready smile, always happy to meet new people, try new experiences and share his many stories. To our family, he was the last of a generation, our beloved Papa.
Bob belonged to a long tradition of railroad men dating back to the 1800s - grandfather, father, uncles, cousins. He came to Cary as a young boy in 1930 and hired out on the Seaboard immediately after high school. His career would last over 40 years, first as a fireman on steam engines, later as an engineer.
He loved projects, coins, travel, golf, the Boston Red Sox and most of all his family. His wife of 63 years, Beck Ivey Craddock, died in 2005. He leaves daughters, Christen Blackley (husband Jim) of Charlotte and Beth Craddock Smith (husband Cabell) of Durham; three grandchildren, Chad Blackley (wife Dawn), Jesse Smith (wife Stephanie) and Dabney Smith; and two young great-grandchildren, Preston and Valerie Smith.
A celebration of Bob's life will be Saturday, June 3 at 2:00 in the chapel of Croasdaile Village Retirement Community, Durham. The family will visit with guests after the service. Memorials may be made to your charity of choice. Condolences may be sent to Clements Funeral Service in Durham.

My sincere condolences to the family. It is truly a blessing Bob lived a long life. He remind me of Psalm 90:10, an especially strong individual.
