Christine Heath Obituary

Christine Bass Heath

December 6, 1927 - December 27, 2014

Hillsborough

Christine B. Heath was a remarkable woman and an inspiration for all who her knew her! She was raised on a Harnett County farm by hard working, loving parents, Wiley B & Susie Bass. After graduating as the salutatorian of her class of 1944, she was recruited by the FBI to work in Washington, DC. She left the work force after she & her husband celebrated the birth of their first child. She returned to work 13 years later at NIEHS and excelled in her position while raising 8 children as a single parent. She became a key trainer and traveled across the US. She is celebrated for her joy of life, her compassion and her devotion to her family.

She is predeceased by her beloved son, Michael Heath, loving siblings & spouses, Toot Bass, Maeline Bass, Weldon Bass & Bill Roberson. Christine leaves behind her sweet sister, Aline Roberson & dear sister-in-law, Jane Bass as well as 7 of her children and their spouses - Robert Heath, Rowena Heath & Doug Webb, Shelly Heath & Randy Hayes, Cathy Heath, Sharon and Phil Riley, Janis and Charles Murphy, Jeff Heath, Sue Heath and Sandy and Sammy Young. Her 15 loved grandchildren and their spouses, 7 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews & friends will miss Christine.

I spent much of my growing up time with you Heaths and miss you all more than you can imagine. Beautiful, strong mother who kept us all on the right side of things with a mere glance, no words needed. Had a sure fire cure for the hick-ups and a way with words that cut right to the point. People that I have known throughout my life and travels have heard many stories of Big Christine, and that will continue. In the world and time that she raised her children in, she was unique, resilient, a force to be reckoned with, a community presence, and one of the world's top mothers. We carry her influence with us, take care of yourselves and find peace.

A STRONG woman with a strong sense of family who graced this world with eight wonderful people that she raised nearly singlehandedly back when there was a lot less support for the effort.
Her passing has triggered a review of memories over the years since I met her after having met her wonderfully loving son Mike. Thanks Christine for making a big part of my life more wonderful than I could ever have hoped for.
