Christopher Good Obituary
Christopher Alexander Good
November 6, 1987 - November 17, 2023
New York, New York - Christopher Alexander Good, 36, passed away peacefully and suddenly from an undetected heart condition on November 17, 2023 at New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital in New York, NY, the city he had come to call home. He was surrounded by friends and loved ones, as he always was in life.
Christopher, or "Chris", as he was lovingly called, was born November 6, 1987 in Greenville, NC and was the second-born son of Dr. Celeste Margarita Good and the late Dr. Kevin Straight Good. He was also the adored baby brother to his older brother, Justin. Though there were nearly 7 years between them, Justin and Chris were more than brothers – they had always been best friends. The close relationship between their boys was one of the biggest prides and joys of the Drs. Good.
Young Chris was born with an innate thirst for knowledge, which carried on to his many successes later in life. He was a unique and gifted child. His love for reading was fostered at a young age, and he cultivated that throughout his life. He continually sought to do more and to be better, in every aspect of his life. He firmly believed that education – whether from a book, a teacher, a coworker or friend – was the key to doing so.
Chris attended Arendell Parrott Academy in Kinston, NC from pre-K until high school, when he attended Woodberry Forest School in Virginia, and in 2006, he graduated from Junius H. Rose High School in Greenville, NC, where he was a member of the wrestling team. As the adoring little brother he was, Chris followed in his brother's footsteps and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Epsilon chapter of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He treasured his time spent in Chapel Hill and the friendships he made over those four years. In 2010, Chris graduated from UNC-CH with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the esteemed Kenan-Flagler Business School's undergraduate program.
Upon graduating from college, Chris followed his longtime dream of moving to the bright lights of the Big Apple. There, he embarked on a successful and lucrative career in finance, which was one of his true passions in life. He began his career at RBC Capital Markets and Citigroup as an investment banker in their Financial Institutions Groups. After gaining experience in M&A advisory and capital markets transactions, Chris took a small hiatus from the big city and moved to Boulder, CO and served as Private Equity Associate at Grey Mountain Partners, where he was able to build upon his deep operational expertise to middle market companies.
During his time in Colorado, Chris was also able to perfect his already expert-level ski skills. Skiing was Chris's favorite pastime, the love for which his father and brother had shared. The three of them were nothing short of a force on a mountain and in life – they were fast, fierce and fun to watch. As much as Chris loved skiing with his brother and father, Chris equally enjoyed his time on the mountain with his nieces and nephew and reveled in seeing them carry on the Good Family tradition.
After conquering the Rockies, Chris returned to New York City, where he joined the team at M3 Partners in 2015 as a founding employee and later became Managing Director. Chris had found his place and his family at M3, and he spent nearly a decade leading short- and long-term advisory for clients in retail, financial and entertainment industries – in some cases even serving as those companies' Interim Chief Financial Officer. He loved his work; he loved the people he worked with; and he was really good at what he did. In addition to finance, Chris had long been an avid lover of all things tech. As a middle school student, he started working as a freelance IT specialist for his parents' friends – just for fun. Growing up, everyone always knew computers were "his thing". He was also an entrepreneur at heart, and recently in his spare time from his already demanding full-time job, he had been working on launching Vaulted, an innovative early-stage startup focused on utilizing cutting edge AI technology to help companies gain better access and understanding of their data. Chris was – in one word, and yet in so many ways – an innovator.
Chris worked hard. He worked hard his entire life – something he learned from his parents, who were both well-respected physicians. He also learned from his parents that if you work hard, you can play hard. He came from a long line of adventurous, thrill-seeking men. If Chris wasn't working, he was either riding his snowmobile and skiing the backcountry terrain of Aspen, catching waves in his beloved Montauk, kitesurfing in the Dominican Republic where his mother is from, catching fish on or wakeboarding behind his 24' Parker boat, backpacking across Europe, floating down a river in Vietnam, climbing the Great Wall of China, or DJ'ing at a friend's wedding. As hard as he worked, he never let work get in the way of living life to its absolute fullest – and always with the biggest, most infectious smile on his face.
Chris was the consummate host, chef, travel planner, and social director. The joy he got from entertaining was one thing he coveted most in life. Food was often his love language, and he had become quite a culinary aficionado. Whether he was whipping up a gourmet meal in a kitchen bustling with his loved ones, over-ordering at a sushi restaurant, or raving about his favorite burger restaurant, Chris always sought to bring people together to eat, drink, and be merry. In every respect, Chris was a giver. He gave his time, his gifts, and most importantly his love to all the people who touched his life. He made friends everywhere – from NYC to Aspen to Seattle, and everywhere in between. Simply put, Chris was a great friend.
But more than anything in the world, Chris Good loved being with his family. He treasured every moment he got to spend time with his brother, his nieces and nephew who absolutely adored him, and his sister-in-law who had been like a big sister to him for over 20 years. But nearest and dearest to Chris, was the time he got to spend with his parents – especially time with his mother since his father's tragic surfing accident in 2017. Chris loved his family dearly and deeply. He had a kind soul, a caring heart, and an unparalleled sense of humor. He will be missed every minute of every day.
In life, Chris was a free bird, who soared higher and farther than most people could ever dream. Although his precious and prolific life has been cut short, he is a free bird once again, watching over everyone who loved him so dearly. Christopher is survived in life by his mother, Dr. Celeste Good of Raleigh; his brother and his wife, Justin and Jillian Good, his nieces, Tatom Elizabeth and Emerson Lenoir, and his nephew, Connor Alexander, all of Raleigh.
A Funeral Service is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023 at 2 PM at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at WMPC. There will also be a Celebration of Life in his honor hosted by his M3 Partners family on Dec. 6, 2023 in New York, NY, and one at a later date in the Dominican Republic, where his ashes will be laid to rest next to his beloved father.
