Christy Clayton Obituary
August 19, 1958 - August 9, 2022
Roxboro, North Carolina - Family and friends are grieving the passing of Dr. Christy Lou Clayton of Roxboro.
Christy's life was joyously full of family, friends, and fun.
As a doctor, she brought babies into the world and cared for women's health needs. Her days and nights were often long, but she found time to enjoy the finer things of life â€" travel, good food, and gorgeous clothes. She inherited her good taste and strong work ethic from her parents, Christine Clayton Pope, who is still going strong at almost 96 years old. Sadly, her father, also a physician, passed in 1977, but he left Christy the desire to care for the medical needs of others.
After graduating Spelman College in Atlanta in 1980, Christy attended East Carolina Medical School. She spent several years developing and delivering women's health care. She established her own private practice, Cary Women's Center in Cary, North Carolina in 1994.
Christy was never idle. She was involved in numerous boards and foundations, including The Girlfriends, Inc. and the National Smart Set, Durham Chapter, where she served as a past president. She was on the Board of Trustees at Bennett College in Greensboro. She was also a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Roxboro.
Christy loved the water. She could spend hours at her pool. Any beach was a source of solace â€" from the coast of the Carolinas to California and Hawaii, to Mexico and other beaches abroad.
We will all miss her spirit and her shining light. But we know we shall meet again in the great beyond.
Christy is survived by her mother Christine Clayton Pope, her sisters, Dawn and Cassandra, brother Dewey, IV, her niece, Kristen, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kristy was a dear friend and colleague. She was so sophisticated in her dress and how she carried herself. I referred many patients to her during our careers and she provided excellent care to them. Dr Clayton delivered our daughter, Kasey, nearly 14 years ago. She was an excellent doctor and had a great bedside presence. I will always remember her, because of the calm that she exuded, due to her experience, that helped us deal with the lack of ours that day.

I had the pleasure of working for Dr. Clayton & during my tenure there we had lots of talks. I recall one year she invited my family to her home for Thanksgiving. Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of "Dr Christy". I was her nurse/practice manager for 7 years. We struggled through some hard times but persevered and made a successful practice of Cary Women´s Center! She and I butted heads many times but grew very close. She blessed my family and I with a flight to Florida and a place to stay while we visited Disney World. She always referred to me as "Nurse Annette", even when she commented on my FB posts.
