Clare Skinner Obituary

Clare Scott Robertson Skinner, 23, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2008. Clare suffered fatal injuries in a tragic car accident in St. Augustine, FL.
She was born in Jacksonville, FL. on August 23, 1985. She is the daughter of Bryant B. Skinner, Jr. and Joan Powell Skinner of Deland, FL., and is the granddaughter of the late James F. Powell, Jr., and Clare Johnson Powell, formerly of Raleigh. Clare's mother Joan is a native of Raleigh.
Clare graduated high school from The Geneva School in Orlando, Florida 2003 and from the University of North Florida, with a degree in advertising. She was currently working on an internship for the John McCain presidential campaign and looking forward to pursuing a career in international politics. She was an energetic and fun loving young woman who always considered the needs of others. Clare was an animal lover, an accomplished gymnast, and had an innate talent for fashion and design. Clare also loved music and was an avid fan of the Florida Gators. Her quick smile, warm and always open personality, will be greatly missed by her many friends and extended family.
Clare is survived by an older brother, James Bryant Walthour Skinner and his wife, Abby, of Henderson, Nevada and younger brother, Russell Joseph Powell Skinner of Deland Florida. Clare is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles living in North Carolina: Joseph M. Powell and wife, Jeanette of Wake Forest, Ralph B. Powell and wife, Debbie of Castalia, James Powell and wife, Roberta of Southport, and Clare P. Houston and husband, Wayne of Charlotte. She has six first cousins on her mother's side of the family: Rebecca Powell, Michelle Powell, Rennie Ray, Roberta Scott Brown, Ashley Franklin, and Christopher Houston.
The memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Deland, Florida. Graveside service will be on Friday, October 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh with Rev. Mike Francis officiating.
Flower memorials should be sent to Brown-Wynne Funeral Home at 300 St. Mary's Street, Raleigh, NC 27605.
Memorial donations should be sent to The Geneva School, 2025 State Road 436, Winter Park, FL 32792.

This was a very sad news article. Bryant Skinner's servant attitude, concern for others, and the courage to make a difference in the lives of others for good is evidenced by his daughter. Bryant was a member of our Rotary club in early 90s. Our club was very saddened by the loss by he and his dear family. God only knows the pain but is also the source of hope in her eternal reward. Bryant, Mandarin Rotary is with you and sends its love.

To the Skinner family:
Betsy is a dear friend of mine and I was so saddened to hear of the tremendous loss you have experienced. I lost my precious niece in January of this year and know the pain that goes along with this kind of loss, even though you believe there is an afterlife. The separation is still painful. Know that you are all in my prayers for peace and comfort, and for some sense to come out of this tragedy.

Barbara and I were saddened by a recent email from Jane Pedrick telling us about Clare's death. We still remember with fondness our days in Jacksonville, our friendship, and the times we shared together. One of our favorite pictures is James Bryant, Jay Stuckey III, and Chris huddled together in a blanket during a sleepover on Chris' 3rd birthday. In fact, Clare was born just a month before our younger son, Matt, 2 years before we moved from Jacksonville to Missouri. This time line is a reminder that--though we have been apart for over 20 years--we still care about your lives, and your loss. Our very fondest regards,
Dave and Barb Stevens

Joan, Bryant, James & Joseph,
My heart breaks for you guys..words can't even begin to express our sadness for you. I was so privileged to have gotten to know Clare as her sunday school teacher, she could have probably taught me after learning from you guys and Geneva. She was always a wonderful girl with that cute little smile (almost like she was up to something). She was unique in herself but she had a little of you both in her too. We will continue to call on the Lord to draw you to Himself in these times ahead. Thank you for always helping those around you...it is time for others to care for you.

October 28, 2008

To the Robertson-Skinner Family,
So sorry to hear about your loss. She was indeed young and her life was cut short unexpectedly. Soon we will be able to live forever and lead fullfilling lives without the threat of death because it death will be eliminated. (1 Corinthians 15:26)
