Daniel Morava Obituary

Daniel Walter Morava, of Carrboro, formerly of Des Plaines, IL, passed away June 12, 2009 at age 73; predeceased by his parents, Walter and Claire (nee) Smith and infant daughter, Susan Frances; fond brother of Mary Spenceley of Red Lake, Ontario, Canada. Other surviving family members include, Frances Arleen (nee) Haley; mother of his children, Daniel A. (Julie), Gregory, Robert, John (Lisa), Mark (Jenny), Susan (Brian) Lawrence; and eight grandchildren. While growing up in Des Plaines, attended St. Mary's Academy and Maryville High School. Following high school enlisted in The United States Navy in 1954. Saw duty during the Suez crisis and was later assigned to his beloved USS Ranger, CV/CVA-61 aircraft carrier. Following his hitch in the Navy, returned to Des Plaines to start his family and career at Des Plaines National Bank. Starting as a teller, worked successfully on his banking degree from The University of Wisconsin, eventually becoming Vice President in his 20 years with the bank. Was active in his community: President of The Jaycees; headed The Library Board; on the board for The Des Plaines Historical Society; active in The Boy Scouts. Also worked with his parents at Morava Stationers and Office Supplies. Dan then went to Arizona to assist in starting a new bank as head cashier. Later married Vickie Schuster. As health problems worsened, decided to move to North Carolina to be near his son Dan, his wife Julie and grandson Tom. Having suffered numerous health problems he is finally at rest. Memorial services will be at University Baptist Church on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Ashes will be interred in Church's Memorial Garden following the church service. Having been hands on active in the Church's renovation, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to UBC's R&R (renovation and renewal) fund. Remembrance at son Dan's house following service.
