Danny Jackson Thomas, 79, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. He was born and raised in Durham, the son of the late Lacy Lee Thomas and Alta Mae Lindley Thomas. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas was also predeceased by his brother, Norman Thomas.
A lifelong Durham resident, Danny was a talented athlete who enjoyed reminiscing about his days playing all three varsity sports at Southern High School and his earlier years as a Durham County Count. He was a dedicated and loyal husband, father, grandfather, friend and Tar Heel.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Alene O'Briant Thomas; daughter, Kimberly Thomas Towles (John); son, Bradley Thomas (Rebecca); and grandchildren, Lacy Towles, John Thomas Towles, Aiden Thomas, Aaron Thomas, Angel Jaime.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, January 9th at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Pastor Ray Gooch officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home beginning at 1pm. A private burial will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Duke HomeCare and Hospice at Hock Family Pavilion: 4023 N. Roxboro Rd., Durham, NC 27704
