David Amselem Obituary

David Amselem
October 21, 1979 - June 10, 2022
Raleigh, North Carolina - David Amselem was born on October 21, 1979, in San Sebastian, Spain, to Winston and Mirentxu Amselem, and died suddenly at his parents' home in Raleigh, North Carolina, on June 10, 2022.
His parents were diplomats in the US Foreign Service, and David grew up traveling and going to school all over the world. He received his university education at the University of California, Irvine, receiving a BS in economics.
He subsequently became a certified public accountant in California, where he worked for a number of accountancy firms. Tiring of California, David moved to North Carolina, where he took up employment in the foreign exchange division of Credit Suisse Bank. His foreign experience, knowledge of languages, mathematical skills, and solid work ethic served him in good stead in that occupation.
David loved to travel, read, and watch historical documentaries on a bewildering number of topics. A voracious consumer of books on economics, as well as on American, European, Asian, and general military history, he closely followed the twists and turns of U.S. and Europeanâ€"most notably Spanish--politics. A superb writer and debater, he enjoyed long discussions about political and historical events. He had a sharp eye for nonsense, and did not hesitate to denounce it.
He possessed a sparkling sense of humor and wry wit. He considered his two brothers, Daniel and Yonathan, also residents of North Carolina, as his closest friends, debating partners, and soul mates. He loved Spanish soccer, and was a life-long fan of La Real Sociedad de Futbol of San Sebastian, Spain. His remains will be buried in the Spanish city of his birth, and where he has so many grieving friends and family waiting to welcome him back home.
He leaves behind his parents, brothers, sisters-in-law, Jodi and Mary Clare, sister, Naiara, and three wonderful nephews, Thomas, Jackson, and Leo.
A memorial service for David will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. www.MitchellatRMP.com.
