Dewey Tuttle Obituary
D.L. Tuttle, 66, of 163 Tuttle Road, Stoneville died Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at his home.
The service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002 at Smyrna Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Smyrna Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Mr. Tuttle was a lifelong resident in the Shiloh Community of Stoneville. He was a lifetime farmer and owner of Tuttle's Berry and Vegetable Farm in the Shiloh Community of Stoneville.
He servedas a military policeman in the US Army stationed in Japan. While in Japan, he played baseball with the Yokohama Clippers.
He was an Elder of Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Reidsville, NC.
Mr. Tuttle was awarded Outstanding Young Farmer by the Tri-Cities Jaycees in 1969 and he served three terms of the N.C. Strawberry and Pick Your Own Association. He was awarded ""Grower of the Year'' by the N.C. Strawberry Association in 2002. He was a member of the Advisory Board of the NC Vegetable Growers Association and of the NC Watermelon Association. He was also a commodity representative for the NC Farm Bureau. He was a member of the original committee formed in 1986 to establish a regional farmers market for the Piedmont Region of North Carolina. Served on the Advisory Board of the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. Mr. Tuttle was a promoter of the ""Goodness Grows in North Carolina'' Campaign.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Helen Rakestraw Tuttle of the home; son, Luke Tuttle and his wife, Kathryn Garrett Tuttle of Shiloh/Stoneville; daughter, Caroline Lineberry and her husband, Scott of Shiloh/Stoneville; grandchildren, Jessie, Emily, and Ben Tuttle, Kaitlyn Lineberry (all of Shiloh/Stoneville); brother, Gray Tuttle and his wife, Priscilla of Shiloh/Stoneville; sister-in-law, Marie Irving and her husband, Bob of Shiloh/Stoneville; special family friend, Brenda Millner of Shiloh/Stoneville; and many special nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Lucille Y. Tuttle, and a dear sister, Rebecca Tuttle Duncan.
Visitation will be 7 until 9 Friday evening at Fair Funeral Home. Other times at the home, 163 Tuttle Road, Stoneville.
