Donna Moore Obituary

Donna Mary Moore

August 1, 1945 - February 21, 2025

Cary, North Carolina - Donna Mary Nichols Moore, 79, of Cary, NC passed away at home on February 21st, 2025. She was born on August 1, 1945 in Dansville, NY to Mary Jo McCray and Gordon Anthony Nichols. She grew up in Dansville with her parents and younger brother, Jim, graduating from Dansville High School. She moved to North Carolina in 1973.

In 1986, she married Eugene Moore and they spent 39 years together and blended their families. She worked in banking, beginning as a teller and becoming VP of branch operations at Coastal Federal Credit Union when she retired in 2008 after a career of 31 years. She was very dedicated to her career and was loved and respected by her coworkers.

Donna enjoyed traveling the world with her scuba diving husband, spending time with her children and grandchildren, cooking, hosting family gatherings, going to NC State football games, socializing with her friends and coworkers, spending time at her mountain house, visiting family and friends. Donna's favorite hobby was shopping for everything: groceries, gifts, household items, clothes - everything.

She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, sister and aunt. She was the primary caregiver for her father, Gordon, for two years until he died at age 97. She was a kind and loving friend to all she met and knew. Her outgoing personality and caring ways made Donna easy to love.

Donna is survived by her husband, Eugene (Gene) Moore; daughters, Lisa Nace Young (Buddy) and Heather Nace Holsclaw (Scott); stepson-Scott Moore (Danielle); stepdaughter April Moore Knodel (Ken); and grandchildren Tyler Young, Brooke Young, Spencer Holsclaw, Riley Holsclaw, Samantha Moore, Nicholas Knodel, Kyle Knodel and Kurt Knodel; brother Jim Nichols; and nieces Kim Maine (Eric) and Melissa Mahany (Fred).

The family is grateful for the loving care provided by hospice and in home care by No Place Like Home Senior Services, and Nancy Seymour.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Amedisys Hospice in Garner, NC the provider of hospice care.

A celebration of life for Donna will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary on Thursday, February 27th, 2025 at 5:00 PM. There will be a family burial in NY at a later date where she will be laid to rest with her parents.
