Mr. Douglas W. Crumpler (U.S. Army Ret.), 79, of 5417 Dunn Road, Roseboro, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Butler Funeral Home, Roseboro, with Rev. Carrie Parrish and Rev. Christi Christianson officiating. Interment will follow at Spell Cemetery, Dunn Road, Roseboro, with full military honors.

Mr. Crumpler was born June 6, 1936 in Sampson County to the late David Dee Crumpler and Laura Bullock Crumpler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard, David Jr., and Charlie Crumpler. He is survived by his sisters, Lois Munford of Raleigh and Novella Hall of Autryville. Douglas was a 1954 graduate of Roseboro High School. He entered the Army in June 1954. He served in Japan, Korea, Germany, and France. Douglas served three tours of duty in Vietnam, which include 1st Cavalry Division, 18th M.P. Brigade, 23rd Infantry Division, 196 Infantry Brigade, and the 1st Infantry Division.

His awards and decorations, include three Bronze stars, Army accommodation medals, two National Defense medals, six good conduct medals, Vietnam service medals with seven battle stars, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm, and other awards. While stationed in Germany and France he attended Military Police Desk Sergeant, traffic investigator, Physical security, chemical, biology radiation school. He was discharged in February 1975.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday evening at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro and other times at the home of Novella Hall, 3797 Carroll Store Road, Autryville.

I served with no finer man in the military than Douglas. Over two years together in Germany and it seems like moments ago.
