Douglas Mangum Obituary

Douglas James Mangum "Dougie Angel" passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026 at the age of 82. He had his wife and son by his side. He was born on April 10, 1943 in Raleigh, NC to Elizabeth Branch Bunch and Ceburn Harris Mangum Sr.

Doug entered the US Army in July 1964 for a 3 year tour. In 1967 he enlisted in the US Army Reserves until 1970. It was during this time that he met Linda Booker. Doug and Linda were married on June 27, 1969 in Raleigh, NC at Macedonia Baptist Church. In 1974 they had a son (Brandon Daddio Mangum).

Doug was a coach for both youth baseball and football. He was an avid Carolina Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes fan.

Doug worked as an electrician for years until an accident changed his course of direction. He worked in an electric supply warehouse, in the shipping department of Stones Southern School Supply and finally worked as an overnight stocker, security and greeter at BJ's Wholesale Club. This was where he became the most popular employee at BJ's with his signature saying "Have a super duper great day!"

He is survived by his wife Linda Booker Mangum; his son Brandon Daddio (Tiffany) Mangum; grandchildren Kelsey, Sebastian, Xavier, Liliana, and Lucas; great-grandchildren Evelynn and Wrenly; sisters-in-law Connie Mangum, Judy Mangum; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Ceburn "Cebe" Mangum Jr, Robert "Bob" Mangum and Joseph "Joe" Mangum.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church, 7100 Holly Springs Rd, Raleigh, NC on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 4pm-6pm.
