They sold the business in 1975, retired in 1976, and moved to Carolina Meadows in 1986, where they were one of the first residents.
At Carolina Meadows, Mrs. Arthur co-chaired the Carolina Meadows gift shop and was the principal buyer for 2 years. She also served a two-year term as resident member of the Carolina Meadows Board of Directors. She was a very active volunteer in the gift shop and the library, and served on many dining service committees.
Mrs. Arthur was predeceased in death by her husband, William Joseph (Billy) Arthur, Sr., at Carolina Meadows, and her brother, Wilbur Harris of Greensboro.
She is survived by her two children, a daughter, Annis Arthur-Boursse of Pinole, California; and a son, Billy Arthur, Jr., of Snow Camp; her son-in-law, Andre Boursse, and a grandson, Ryan Boursse, San Francisco, California.

It's been my understanding that Ms. Edith and I are distant kin. I contracted TB of the spine in the early fifties and was treated at the hospital in Chapel Hill. My grandfather was on his death bed in Elizabeth City and my parents were torn between the two of us. When my parents had to leave for a couple days, a wonderful lady by the name of Mrs. Edith Arthur would come by to visit with me, bring me books, toys, play games with me, and anything to keep my mind off my problems. She was an absolute God-send to a ten year old kid who was scared to death. That was almost 60 years ago but I've never forgotten her kindness. We reconnected after Mr. Billy passed away and I had the opportunity to personally thank her many times for her kindness. My condolences to Billy, Annis, and your families. Be thankful for your time with such wonderful parents.
