Edward Pope Obituary
Durham
Edward H. Pope, 83, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014 at Duke University Hospital. He was born in Wake Co., son of the late Ollie B. Pope and the late Ordella Jane Jackson Pope. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ann Jones Pope, 2 sisters, Rita Parrish and Clem Robbins and a brother, J.B. Pope.
Mr. Pope was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and the owner of Ed Pope's Dry Cleaners. After retiring from the cleaning business, he held multiple positions with the Department of Juvenile Justice. He was a long time member of Grey Stone Church in Durham.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracey Pope-Massey; son, Todd Pope; grandchildren, Michael Pope, Jacob Massey, Payton Massey, Kaylee Ann Pope; sisters, Donna Ferguson, Clara West and Thelma Pope; sister in law, Cecelia Snyder; and special neighbors and friends Vance and Dorothy Clayton.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday at Grey Stone Church with Dr. Clay Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to ReCity Network which is an organization to help at risk youth in the Triangle. Donations may be made online at recitynetwork.org

Tracey, I have and will be praying for you and those precious little redheads. Ed loved you so much. I know Mama gave him a great reception. What a glorious time for your Daddy when he opened his eyes and saw God. That is what we all strive for. He is no longer in pain or any discomfort. Your Daddy now only knows love,joy, beauty and peace. He knows his love carries on in you and the rest of your family. You will see him again one glorious day. Love you.??

Condolences to the family and God's comfort for the family and friends who knew and loved Mr. Pope. I had the priviledge and honor of knowing and working with him from 2003 -2010 at DJJDP. Mr. Pope knew nearly everyone and was the go to guy to get things that were not in the budget for the youth that we served. He was a kind and generous Christian who would help in anyway that he could. He could always be depended on.
He was a giver and a blessing to all who knew him. His presence on this earth will be missed.

I am so very sorry for your loss of such a wonderful person in our lives. I have known Ed for the pass six years and I have been proud to call him my friend. As his family, I know you will miss him. Mr. Pope has been in my life since I was 16 yrs. old & I will truly miss him.. He was very special to me for many reasons the main one is he "Lead me to the Lord, yea right at the Dry Cleaners.. He was a great friend & mentor that encouraged me to do many things in my life that I would only have done b/c of him.. I love him dearly and I know the angels are rejoicing in Heaven since his arrival..

Ed and I played football together at Durham High School. I would see Ed periodically at different events and we always spent a few minutes catching up. I always admired Ed for the work he did with juveniles . When I lived close by, I always carried my clothes to Pope's Cleaners...the best in town! Ed was one of the kindest, caring people I have known, and he will be missed!

I knew Ed at work with DJJ. He showed his love for kids in so many ways, you could always count on him to help anyone in need. One of my best memories of him is when he brought hot dogs and hosted lunch in his office or sometimes in mine. Such a lot of people loved him.
