Edwin Brandle
October 19, 1929 - September 27, 2025
Raleigh, North Carolina - It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Edwin G. Brandle on Saturday, September 27th, 2025. Ed or "Bo" to family, and "Pop-Pop" to his grandchildren was born on October 19, 1929 in Asheville, N.C. to the late Fannie Davis Brandle and Horace Lynwood Brandle. Ed attended Lee H. Edwards High School in Asheville where he played the trumpet in the school band. He loved his classmates and has since planned and attended high school reunions up until the last several years of his life.
Ed was employed by the Asheville Citizens Times Co. where he worked in the photo engraving department. A proud Veteran, Ed served his country in the U.S. Navy on the Aircraft Carrier, USS Leyte during the Korean War.
Ed married Jacqueline Faith O'Connor at the Second Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, N.C. on April 4th, 1953, with whom he spent almost 42 years. Together they moved to Raleigh where he began his career at Raleigh Engraving Company, a Graphic Arts business, which he eventually purchased.
Ed was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served and loved his church family. His love of life, sense of humor, and positive spirit left an impression on those at every gathering he attended. Attending family reunions was a major part of Ed's life. He enjoyed sharing stories and playing with all of his cousins young and old. All those around him were always left with a laugh or smile on their face.
Ed was such a "people person" and over the years was involved in many organizations including the Raleigh Jaycees, Advertising Club, Raleigh Toastmasters, Printing House Craftsmen, Governor's Traffic Council, served as President of Southeastern Photo Plate Makers and served several terms on the Raleigh Planning Commission. Ed also supported the American Red Cross where he donated gallons of blood through the years.
Those left to cherish special memories are his daughter, Nancy Ritchie (Dan) of Raleigh, son Eddie Brandle (Laura) of Angier, son Greg Brandle of Raleigh and daughter Tracy Spinks of Raleigh, his 4 grandchildren, Jill Casteen, Ginny Pendleton (Alan), Davis Brandle, Adam Spinks and three great granddaughters, Mallory, Bailey and Londyn. Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife Jacqueline Brandle, granddaughter Lindsey Brandle and sister Mary Louise Storie. Ed was a kind and generous man which earned him a permanent place in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday October 2, 2025 at 2:00PM at New Hope Baptist Church, 4301 Louisburg Rd, Raleigh with parking being on the Millbrook Road side parking lot. A private graveside will follow.
