Edwin Earl Gay

Mr. Edwin Earl Gay, 82, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008 at his home.
A native of Greene County, he was born November 5, 1925, the son of Earl S. and Susie Walston Gay. As a young man during the WWII era, he entered the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific Fleet. Following his tour of duty, he returned home where he enjoyed a fulfilling career as a farmer. Mr. Gay was a lifelong member of Howell Swamp FWB Church where he had served as a Deacon and was active in the Layman's League. Always patriotic and commemorative of his service and that of others, he was a Charter Member of the Walstonburg American Legion Post 332.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, 117 NW Third St, Snow Hill. Interment will immediately follow at the Gay Family Cemetery near Walstonburg.
His surviving family includes his wife, Dorothy Jones Gay of the home; sons, Samuel Earl Gay and wife, Laurie, and Michael Lynn Gay and wife, Debbie, all of Walstonburg; grandchildren, Ashley Bryant and husband, David of Greenville, Mitch Gay and wife, Elise of Greenville, Samantha Gay of Winterville and Matt Gay of Walstonburg; great-grandchildren, Gabby Gay and Caroline Bryant; and a brother, Walter Lee Gay and wife, Blanche of Farmville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gay was preceded in death by a brother, Seth R. Gay.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 865 Gay Road, Walstonburg.
