Eleanor Stephenson Obituary

Eleanor Stephenson

Fuquay-Varina

Eleanor Van Hook Stephenson passed away in her home, 1301 Ballentine Road, Fuquay-Varina, N.C. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. A memorial service will be held in her honor at Rawls Baptist Church, 10665 US 401S on Saturday, August 25th at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service and other times at her home.

Eleanor was born February 18, 1937 in Fuquay-Varina, daughter of the late Quinn A. and Maude Brooks Barker Van Hook. She graduated from Fuquay Springs High School in 1955 and then, from Campbell College. After raising four children, she acquired David Anthony's Gift Shop which she ran for over 29 years. She spent every day at the Store except Sundays when she attended church. Family, Church and work were the greatest joys of her life, providing interaction with the community, customers, and friends. Her signature gift wrapping will be remembered by all who shopped at the store.

Preceding Eleanor in death are her parents, Quinn and Maude Van Hook, and surviving are her children: Gordon Stephenson (Barbara), Sarah S. Ferren (Bryan), Brooks M. Stephenson, Martha S. Lawrence (Tom); her grandchildren, Matthew Stephenson, Baxter Stephenson, Emily Ferren, Benjamin Ferren, Austin Stephenson, Adam Lawrence, and Andrew Lawrence; and her great grandson, Graham Stephenson. She is also survived by her sister, Sarah V. Medcraft (Chuck) living in Myrtle Beach, SC.

In lieu of flowers, condolences may be made to either Rawls Baptist Church, (address above,) or Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.

My deepest sympathies to the Stephenson family.
Eleanor was a wonderful lady. I first knew her as a vendor for David Anthony's and we quickly became friends. Any day speaking to Eleanor was a better day. She will always be dear to my heart.

I would like to express my deepest condolences to you and your family. Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult things to endure. We all long for the time when we can say with confidence, "Death is swallowed up forever. Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?" (1 Corinthians 15:54,55)
