Elwin I Brawner

January 1, 1944 - June 2, 2025

Richmond, Virginia - Elwin I. (Joe) Brawner died on June 2, 2025, at home in Richmond, Virginia. He was born in Kansas, on January 1,1944, to parents Cornelia and 1LT Elwin I Brawner. Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his wife Judith, of the home, son William Matthews Brawner (Anna) and their sons Hayes and Zachary of Raleigh, NC, daughter Melissa Evans Reis (Abilio) of Richmond and their children Olivia, Sofia and Max, and daughter Elizabeth Whitney Brawner, of Richmond.

Joe graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Tech and later earned his MBA at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. After his graduation from Tech, he worked for Reynolds Metals, and following grad school, spent the remainder of his career working for ICI Americas and internationally for ICI.

After he retired, they moved to Bald Head Island, NC, where he became involved in island community projects, The Bald Head Island Club, Public Safety, The Conservancy, and the Homeowners' Association. There he found joy in pursuing his love of golf, gardening, fishing and lasting friendships.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in the Village Chapel on Bald Head Island at 11:00 a.m. on September 20, 2025, with a reception to follow at the Bald Head Island Club.
