Emory Lee Bunn, 39, was welcomed into Heaven Thursday evening at Rex Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Lee was born in Raleigh at the old Rex Hospital. He attended Francis Lacy School, Daniels Junior High and Athens High School in Raleigh.
As a child and teen, Lee pursued and excelled at soccer, swimming and cycling. He suffered an accident in 1989 which left him a paraplegic.
Lee was a devoted animal lover. He had a thirst for knowledge and had many interests.
He is survived by his parents, Patricia Husketh Bunn and Thomas Davis Bunn; his sister, Lisa Bunn Jarema and husband Jeff and their daughter, Catherine Grace; his step siblings, Davis Bunn, Wilton Leroy "Lee" Bunn, Bunny Matthews and Nancy Smith; his beloved yellow lab, "Mali"; and also two loving and supportive friends, Ronni Whitman and Laurie Schillito.
With loving gratitude, we thank the doctors and nursing staff at Wake Medical Center as well as the incredible guidance, wisdom and support of Hospice of Wake County.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2009 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's Street.

Dear Bunn Family,

I spent some time with Lee in high school. He was fun, free spirited and a little mischevious. I also spent a little quality time with him shortly after his accident. At the time I felt his pain and I know it must have been one of the toughest periods of his life. I lost touch after that but have never forgotten him.

I am deeply sorry for your loss.

My condolences,

Valerie Leuba Quade

In my childhood Lee and I were close friends...we lost touch over the years, however, memories of running around the neighborhood with Lee and Cameron B. are some of the fondest I have of my younger years. May the comfort of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, be with you all in your time of loss.

With Deepest Sympathy,

David Jeffries

Patricia and Family,
I was heartbroken to hear of your beloved Lee's passing yesterday. I remember Lee as a young man so full of energy and with such a strong spirit. You are a loving, supportive family who saw Lee through all that he faced in life. I hope memories of the happy times you shared with Lee will serve as a comfort to you in the upcoming days.
