What we loved about Erin, besides her incredibly quick sense of humor, was the element of surprise she carried with her, defying expectations at every turn. When she was going to visit some city or landmark, Erin learned everything she could. I watched her be the only person ask cogent questions at a visit to the Hunley in Charleston. I could see the surprise in the eyes of the other visitors. With Erin affection earned affection and our whole family will miss her terribly and cherish the memories we hold. To the entire Gilmore family we want you to know we share your pain.

David, Barbara and each of your family members I wanted to express my sincere sympathy to all of you. I hope you remember me. We met through living in College Downs and also both David and my late husband Dennis taught at UNCC. And the best memory I have of our relationship was babysitting Erin a few times and what a joy she was. Hope we can reconnect by phone sometime soon. Elaine Lord
