Eugene Woodlief Obituary

Eugene "Gene" Wesley Woodlief, 61, of Rolesville, died Tuesday November 4, 2008 at his home.
He was the youngest child of the late Marvin Roosevelt and Nolie Catlett Woodlief. He proudly served his country for 12 years in the U.S. Army. During his military service, he served three tours of duty in Vietnam where he received two purple hearts. For 25 years he worked with the Wake County sheriff's office, retiring from the Investigative Division in 2002. After retirement, he worked part- time at The Paschal Golf Club in Wake Forest where he was also a member.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sharon Harding Woodlief; sisters, Margaret Caton and husband, Larry of Wake Forest, Frankie White and husband, Shelton of Youngsville, Ruby Fuller and husband, John of Franklinton; brothers, Frank Woodlief and wife, Sharon of Maripasa CA; Thurman Woodlief and wife, Alice of Tulura, CA, Pete Woodlief and wife, Faith of Los Gatos, CA, Herman Woodlief of Louisburg and Donald Woodlief of Youngsville; many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; whom he dearly loved, and a special family friend Tori Lockamy Hall.
He is preceded in death by his children, Erika Suzanne Woodlief and Bradley Harding Woodlief, his great aunt, Mattie Minga Alford "Ma Mat" who, after the death of his mother, raised and later adopted Gene; his sister, Pauline Woodlief Dupree, and brother, Ronald "Joe" Woodlief.
A service celebrating Gene's life will be held at Glen Royal Baptist Church in Wake Forest at 10:00 a.m. Thursday November 6, 2008. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts be made to The Erika Suzanne Woodlief Memorial Scholarship Fund, Office of Institutional Advancement, Meredith College, 3800 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC 27607-5298
