Evan Michael Andrew Pickering, 30, of Chapel Hill, NC, and Minneapolis, MN, passed away on Sunday, March 13, in Minneapolis, MN. Born in Fremont, California, on April 20, 1985, he spent his earliest years in California and then England, where by the age of five he had mastered a perfect British accent. He moved after that with his parents, Sandra Jane Pickering and Jeffrey Paul Pickering, to Chapel Hill, NC where Evan attended local schools, including East Chapel Hill High.

When he died, Evan was completing a course in computer engineering at Century College in White Bear Lake, MN. Like his father he loved working with computers and often volunteered his time working to refurbish computers for charity.

Evan was a gifted musician-singer, songwriter and guitarist-who often performed locally in Chapel Hill and Minneapolis. He was an accomplished writer. Evan had considered a career in linguistics and had studied French, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Evan was a voracious reader known for his poetic skills, keen insight, generous nature and dry wit.

He is survived by his parents and sister, Sarah Rachael Pickering. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle in Carrboro, NC, Linda and Cliff Haac and their daughters, Anna and Bryce. He is survived as well by his grandmother, Barbara Pickering; his grandfather, Dick Pickering; his aunt Jill Solem; his aunt and uncle Sharon and Fritz Johnson; and cousins Nicole, Kristina, Lisa, Mathew and Davin; all from the greater Minneapolis area.

Evan was a member of the Chapel of the Cross in Chapel Hill. A memorial service will be held April 2, 2016 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Street Youth Ministries in Seattle, WA or the Salvation Army.
