George Gooch Obituary

George Harris Gooch, 83, of 2101 Oakland Avenue, Henderson, N.C., died Monday, February 16, 2004, at his home.
Born in Henderson, he was the son of the late Lueco Richard Gooch and Jessie Page Gooch.
Mr. Gooch served in the United States Army Air Corps, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He retired in 1986 from Southern National Bank (now BB&T), as Senior Vice- President, after 35 years in banking. The bank later built and named its board room the George H. Gooch Community Room in honor of his service, and commissioned him to build its oak, mahogany, and marble conference table. He enjoyed making furniture, and traveled extensively in retirement.
Memorial services are to be held Friday, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles M. Cook.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Julia Baldwin Gooch; two daughters, Ann Gooch Motten of Durham, N.C. and Judith Gooch Byrd of Atlanta, Georgia; a son, Robert P. Gooch of Durham, N.C.; two sisters, Martha Gooch Best of Brevard, N.C., and Page Gooch Frank of York, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
