Neal is survived by the love of his life for more than 61 years, Rachel Watkins Council; children, David Council (Shannon) of Clayton, Leslie Chaney (George) of Glade Valley, Glynis Meeker (Eddie) of Kenly, Phyllis Lee (Stephen) of Smithfield; grandchildren, Katherine Wright (Earl), Walt Stanfield (Juliana), Calton Duckworth (Elizabeth), Bryan Council (Sydney), Chris Stanfield, Jessi Willoughby (Hunter), Jackson Duckworth, Holden Duckworth (Alexis Strickland), Charles Stanfield (Lexi Chapin), Allyson Council (Davis Felts), Caroline Barber, Noah Lee, Connor Lee; great grandchildren, Ivey Council, Finn Duckworth; former sons-in-law, Landis Stanfield, Tim Barber, Jamie Duckworth as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joel Council, Noel Council and a sister-in-law, Ruth Council. Neal was known for his love of God and Jesus Christ, his personal Lord and Savior, as well as his family. He was an active member of Caraleigh Baptist Church for over 60 years where he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and numerous other roles. His happiest days were spent when his family was by his side, usually with a large plate of home-cooked food and some ice cream for dessert. Neal was the Parts Manager for over 40 years at Senter Tractor in Garner and was known to pull part numbers from memory when serving customers. His legacy was mostly his large family, but his unconditional love for people extended to everyone he met. His big heart and sensitive nature endeared him to many. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 11th at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00-1:45 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Caraleigh Baptist Church, 1400 Green Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
