Helen Clark Obituary
Helen Langdon Clark, was born in Washington, DC September 14, 1917. Mrs. Clark graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1939, received a Master's degree in Nursing from Yale in 1943, and spent most of her married life in Fayetteville, NC.
 
 Her father, Andrew Whitney Bennett, was an attorney. He was a descendant of Edward Bennett, an English Quaker who immigrated to Pennsylvania about 1685. Her mother, Lucie Agnew Bennett, was descended from Scotch-Irish Robert Agnew, who settled in Pennsylvania just in time to serve as a soldier in the revolutionary War.
 
 Mrs. Clark's first husband was Benjamin Bruce Langdon, M.D. whom she married March 23, 1940.While serving as a medical officer during WWII, he was captured on Bataan in 1942 and remained a Japanese prisoner until the war ended in 1945. Retired with the rank of Captain, he practiced urology in Fayetteville, NC until his death in 1970.
 
 On June 16, 1973, Helen married David Sanders Clark. Mr. Clark served as a naval intelligence officer in WWII and, prior to his retirement, as an intelligence management specialist in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. For 13 years Mrs. Clark wasa clinical instructor in the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Fayetteville Technical Institute until it interfered with travel. She and Mr. Clark traveled extensively, covering every continent except Antarctica. They attended schools at Oxford, Cambridge, and the University of Peking. Her favorite country was China, which she visited four times, initially in 1940.
 
 Mrs. Clark was a former president of the Woman's Club of Fayetteville and during the 1960's was a member of the Community Action Committee. She also belonged to Highland Presbyterian Church, the Literary Club, the Art League, the Pine Needles Garden Club, the Supper Club and the D.A.R.
 
 In 1995 Mr. and Mrs. Clark moved from Fayetteville to the retirement community of Carolina Meadows on the outskirts of Chapel Hill, NC where they stayed until their deaths in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
 
 Mrs. Clark is survived by her sons Bruce David Langdon of Fayetteville and Andrew Lloyd Langdon of Raleigh, NC, and her stepchildren; Mary H. "Molly" Clark of Providence, RI, David Livingstone Clark of Washington, DC, and Jonathan Sanders Clark of Gaithersburg, MD; as well as several step-grand and great-grandchildren.
 
 There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, July 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.
