Herbert Wayne Dickens died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the age of 87 at home with his loving family, friends and caregivers. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens. There will be a luncheon for family and close friends prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Herbert was born on November 16, 1930 in Fuquay Springs, NC to the late Frank and Clyde Sherron Dickens.
He married the late Patricia A. Lovette after high school in 1951 and they were married for 60 years. During Herbert's life he developed a love for his family, warm weather, seafood, The ROMEO club, lots of long life friends, hunting, fishing, gardening and rescuing animals.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Pamela Dickens of Hillsborough; son, Mike Dickens of Florida, grandson, John Michael Dickens of Massachusetts; brother, Philip Dickens of Raleigh; sisters in law, Dot Dickens and Thelma Dickens of Fuquay-Varina and Mary Lovette of Durham.
Donations in lieu of flowers are suggested to the American Kidney Fund at 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852; Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or CenterPeace of Fuquay-Varina, P.O. Box 1797, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526 who provided compassionate, quality care to Herbert during his last days.
