Hi Kara, I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I'll always remember his reassurance the night I got a warning ticket near your house and I was so scared. He was always a great Dad and friend. It has been many years since you and I have talked, but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your Mom and family during this time and in the days ahead.

Nan, My heart is broken. I cannot believe this horrible, horrible tragedy. Out of town, I called our office and was told. All week end I have been unable to think of anything else. You KNOW that all I have inside me morns. I will forever remember all the hours we have spend bantering back and forth in good spirits. You and Kara and all the JDG family are in my prayers and in my heart. I will see you all soon and try to see that Jack's wishes for you all will be honored. Love, love, love!

As a neighbor and frequent visitor to your store, I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Jack. He was truly a cornerstone in this community. It surely won't be the same to enter the store and not see his smiling face. I know that you will all continue to strive to carry on his legacy. As you do, know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many people who's lives he touched. Tracy Toomer, Raleigh,NC

I grew up in Cary and went to school and church with Jack. I didn't see him much after I moved away from Cary. But on one visit back, he introduced me to his wife after service at the Methodist Church. We laughed about her maiden name and my last name being the same. It sounds as if he led an exemplary life. I know he will be missed.

Dear Nan, Kara and Jon -
I was so saddened by Jack's premature passing. I hope you feel comfort in knowing that Jack touched so many lives and the family bond you so generously share with your customers will never be forgotten. Jack always had an encouraging word or funny antidote. I will never forget the support he gave me when I went through cancer...he always had me smiling when I left the store...I will miss him terribly when I get my Mt. Dews and oatmeal raisin cookies in the mornings. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time.

What a great family! My husband I moved to Raleigh in 1978 into Sumter Square apartments. So after, I became pregnant and my husband lost his job. Mrs. Daniels, Jack and Nan always worked with us to get gas or milk if we needed it and pay on Friday. Jack always had a smile and made you feel at home. He has touched a huge population of the Raleigh/Cary area and will be greatly missed.

I grew up on Jones Franklin Road and I had not seen Jack or Nan in 25 years. I stopped by the store last Saturday to see Jack for the first time in 25 years. He was not there but I talked to his son-in-law and told him to tell Jack that Joe Futrell had came by to see him.
Jack and his mother were very nice to me and will remain in my childhood memories for life.

I am so sorry to hear of Jack's death. In the fall of 1967 as a young, sheltered freshman at NC State, I had the pleasure of meeting Jack. He, Buck Keener, Jimmy Atkinson, and I became fast friends and to this day I smile when I think of those days. Though we hadn't talked or visited in some years, I will miss knowing that my friend is out there. With best regards...DonB

Dear Nan, Kara and Jon...I know Jack was known by many and will be missed by many, but he has left an everlasting impression on this community. People went into the store because of the family bond that is in there and the happiness of jack and all. I have never seen someone so looked up to and known by so many. It has touched me in so many ways. My prayers are with you all.
