James Brown Obituary

James Angus Brown

October 21, 1954 - April 21, 2024

Cary, North Carolina - Jimmy Brown, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend of many, passed away peacefully at the age of 69.

Jimmy's life was filled with the joys of family, friends, art, and sports. Jimmy was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife of forty years, Cheryl Miller Brown; he was a caring father to Jason Brown (Caitlin Penry) and Connor Brown. Jimmy is survived by his brothers, Charles Brown (Diana) and David Brown (April), nephews, Kevin and Cory.

Whether it was teeing off on a picturesque golf course, conquering a challenging hiking trail, gliding down the slopes with his family, Jimmy found joy and exhilaration in so many outdoor pursuits. His interest in building systems led to his career in Engineering. Jimmy was a design engineer and project manager for several companies including the NCSU facilities department

Jimmy believed his legacy would continue through the many lives he impacted, and the friends that he made, the joy for life he displayed, and boundless love he shared. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered for his kindness and unwavering optimism.

In remembrance of Jimmy's battle with cancer the family suggest that donation be made to the V foundation WWW.V.org. or a charity of personal choice in lieu of flowers.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, April 28, 2024 at 3:00 PM with a reception to receive friends immediately following.

Jimmy and I grew up on Brooks Avenue in Garner, NC, just a few houses apart. We were also in several classes at Vandora Springs Elementary, starting in the 1st grade. I remember Jimmy as always being so kind, smiling, very bright, and a friend to everyone. We reconnected on FB a while back regarding my oldest brother, Warren. I sent him our old class pictures to enjoy in case he didn´t have his. My deepest sympathies to all of his family, and many friends. Jimmy will live on in many hearts and fond memories, of everyone he crossed paths with along his journey. Rest in peace always my friend. ....Wanda Davis (GSHS Class of 1973)

In the early 1980´s, I met Cheryl Brown at the Shearon-Harris Nuclear plant. Later, I got to know Jimmy. I became very good friends with the Brown´s. We became part of a close-knit group of co-workers that worked and socialized together. When Jimmy attended NCSU and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, Jimmy and I had another common bond as both of us graduated with mechanical engineering degrees from NCSU.

We attended many dinner parties at the Brown´s house and tailgate parties at Carter-Finley Stadium. We went to the beach together. We water skied and snow skied together. I have such good memories of skiing with Jimmy and Cheryl at the Steamboat Springs ski resort in Colorado. The last time I skied was with Jimmy and Cheryl in 2015 at Steamboat Springs. Jimmy and I spent hundreds of hours over the past 30+ years talking about engineering projects. We both worked at RTI at different times during our careers. I have such fond memories of Jimmy. His life will forever be weaved together with mine.

Jimmy, you have been such a good friend. You are and will forever be missed.
