James Guthrie Obituary
Graveside service 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Jud Jordan officiating. Honorary Pallbearers, Members of the Board of Directors of Community Resource Bank and employees of Superior Motors Inc.
Mr. Guthrie was born in Sanford and raised in Cameron. He was the son of the late James M. Guthrie, Sr. and Lula MacPherson Guthrie. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina with a Bachelors Degree in Business. He began his career in automotive service with GMAC and Lexington Motor Co., Lexington. He founded Superior Motors Inc. of Orangeburg July 5, 1960, and served as President to the present time. He was also a tree farmer. He was a Charter Member and later Chairman of the Board of Orangeburg National Bank now Community Resource Bank. Mr. Guthrie was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors includes wife, Lou Daniel Guthrie of the home; son, James Mitchell "Jimmy" Guthrie, III and wife Retta of Orangeburg; daughter, Mary Lou Guthrie Sawyer and husband Buzz of Chapin; sister, Carolyn G. Brown and husband Bill of St. Petersburg, FL; three grandchildren, Carolyn Renn Guthrie of Orangeburg, James Weldon Sawyer of Greenville, Michael Whitfield Sawyer of Central.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving assistance of caregivers Jennifer Robinson and Loretta Glover Byerson.
Family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made: Fellowship of Christian Athletics, South Carolina State University, P.O. Box 7001, Orangeburg, SC 29117.

We lost a wonderful man when Jim Guthrie passed away. I will always be grateful for all that he did for me personally and for my family.
