James Donald Seitzer

September 22, 1924 - March 20, 2024

Chapel Hill, North Carolina - James D. Seitzer of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, died March 20, 2024, at the age of 99.

Born in Williamsport, PA on September 22, 1924, the son of Frederica and H. Bruce Seitzer, he was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. He retired from Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation in 1978 and then moved to Durham where he established a manufacturer's representative firm, which he sold in 1986.

Mr. Seitzer was a twice-wounded veteran of WWII, receiving the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster as well as three Battle Stars. He played percussion for many years in the Durham Community Concert Band and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Durham where he served as an Elder and was chairman of the Property Committee. He also served as chairman of the First Presbyterian Day School for several years and was the founding treasurer of Phoenix House of Durham. Mr. Seitzer was a Mason.

Surviving are his daughters, Deborah Olausson and her husband Hans of Lund, Sweden, Jean Storrs and her husband Alex of Fishersville, VA; son, Bruce Seitzer and his wife Janet of Wilmette, Illinois; five grandchildren, Erik Olausson and his wife Christin Persson of Malmo, Sweden; and Sara Bankler and her husband Hampus of Stockholm, Sweden; David Seitzer and his wife Bridget O'Rourke of Brooklyn, New York; Anna Gray and her husband Isaiah Rotondi Gray of Stow, Massachusetts; and Matthew Storrs of Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. Seitzer was predeceased by his sisters Betty Kramm, Jean Leprohon and Dorothy Pfeiffer, and by his brothers Richard Seitzer and William Seitzer.

There will be no viewing. A Memorial Service will be held at Carolina Meadows at 11 AM on Saturday May 25th, with a reception immediately following. There will be an interment of ashes at First Presbyterian Church (Durham) Memorial Garden on Sunday, May 26th following the 11AM service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carolina Meadows Remembrance & Gift Fund, 100 Whipporwill, Lane, Chapel Hill, NC 27517.
