In Aug. of 1997, I was 23 years old, had just graduated college, moved to Durham, NC, and was hired as a second grade teacher at Merrick-Moore Elementary. Thankfully, I met Jane! She was my assigned mentor, friend, and became a second mom. The ideas and strategies that Jane taught me 14 years ago are the things I still use today. Being around Jane for my first 4 years of teaching was so beneficial. Jane’s mentoring has helped me become the teacher I am today! If only all our new teachers could have a Jane in their lives. She was one in a million and someone I will forever cherish. Thank you Jane for all the gifts you gave me. Your memory will live on in my teaching.
