Raleigh, North Carolina - Jane Phinney Suggs, 91, of Raleigh, NC, passed away June 25, 2022 at home with her family. She was born in Raleigh to Mary Knight Phinney and Clarence Edward Phinney. She graduated from Broughton High School and from Meredith College with a degree in English. In 1949 she married Charles Wilson Suggs. They had 72 ½ years of marriage and enjoyed traveling, NCSU basketball, gardening and time with family and friends. Jane showed her love through cooking. She was a lifelong member of Raleigh's First Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching the children in the Beginner's Sunday School Class for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Elizabeth Phinney Campbell. She is survived by her children Charles W. Suggs, Jr. (Chip) (wife Kathy Powers) of Pittsburgh, PA, Susan J. Suggs (husband Doug Champion) of Southern Pines, NC, Cynthia A. Suggs of Chapel Hill, NC, and niece Eve C. Beasley and Eve's children and grandchildren. Jane also is survived by cousins who were life-long friends.
Funeral service to be held at the First Baptist Church in Raleigh on Saturday, July 9th at 2:00 pm. Visitation to follow service in the fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to Meredith College. Condolences can be made at Fergusonfs.com.

Charles, I remember when Polly and I got stranded at your house during the ice storm in Raleigh. Instead of one night with you, we spent four nights and you and Jane fed us well. We send our sympathy to you and the family.
