Joan Devenney Obituary

Joan Carol Rickley Devenney

January 2, 1936 - April 13, 2018

Quarryville, PA

Joan was born to Walter and Camille Rickley on January 2, 1936 in Lakewood, OH, reborn into God's family at age 18, and delivered to Heaven on April 13, 2018.

Joan was beloved by her family and is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, William G. Devenney, Jr., and her five children: Bill (& Shari), Mark (& Marina), (Lee &) Ruth Epstein, Shawn, and Faith, her loving sister, Janet (& Robert) Mcquale and many nieces and nephews. Joan cherished being a grandmother and great-grandmother to 30 children, here and in heaven. She was also a treasured friend to innumerable people throughout her life.

Above all, Joan loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and found joy in her prayer life and study of God's Word. She gave her family everything we needed by giving us Jesus. Her heart for Jesus led her to host, encourage, and pray for missionaries; tens of thousands worldwide have heard of Jesus' love through her friends, kids, and grandkids.

In lieu of flowers, she would love to be honored by giving to one of these ministries:

TEAM Missions: Account 011791; PO Box 1986, Grapevine, TX 76099 (son Mark Devenney)

Word of Life: PO Box 600; Schroon Lake, NY, 12870 (grandson William Devenney)

CMF International: PO Box 501020; Indianapolis, IN 46250 (grandson Ben Devenney)

A celebration of Joan's life will be held Monday, April 23, with a viewing at 9 AM and funeral at 10 AM, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, and interment to follow at Siloam United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3720 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA 19060. I am so very sorry that I just learned of Joan s passing ! Her and her husband I have known for many years as my co workers and patients at Walmart ! I first met Joan at the door of Walmart as I worked as a optician for the optical shop . Later her smiling face every day would become a beam to my life as to my faith . I later moved to Wake forest Walmart and her and Bill would come in to see me about their glasses , and I always enjoyed their company and companionship! Greeted with a big hug and a kind Christ like heart I am certain she is in a much better place . I am sure her family misses her and her devoted husband will see her before long !! God bless and til we meet again ! Love always

I have known Joan since before she and Bill married and I was a teenager and have enjoyed all the times we have connected. Whether it was Machen League at the local OPC or at Faith Pres. or going on adventures with the youth group it was well worth knowing her and her love for Jesus.
