John Page

1935 - 2025

John Edward Page of Raleigh, NC, died on 18 December, 2025 after a brief illness.

John was born in 1935 in Long Branch, New Jersey and moved to Smyrna, NC at the age of six. He attended Smyrna High School where he enjoyed playing baseball. After a year at Presbyterian Junior College, John volunteered for the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. On his return from Germany, the G.I. bill helped John obtain his undergraduate degree in English at UNC, Chapel Hill. He then went on to get his Master's degree in Media Communication.

John was passionate about teaching science to middle school students, though he did not prescribe to 'teaching' per se; rather, he empowered his students to learn through inquiry and experimentation. His other jobs included a stint at Durham Tech and then at the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation in Raleigh, NC.

John loved to travel; he and his wife Prabha lived on a sail boat for six years; enjoyed RV life after the sailing years and traveled extensively in India and Europe. He was an avid numismatist, specializing in ancient Indian coins. He was president of the Raleigh Coin Club in the mid 80s and was instrumental in starting a coin club in Morehead City, NC.

In his later years John set himself the task of learning about all and any subject he could think of; in particular, he delved into Ancient History, Science, and, Religion and Culture through The Great Courses. He loved gardening and was a connoisseur of roasting and brewing coffee.

John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Prabha Ramakrishnan, his brother Ted Page of Florida and sister Judy Willis of Greenville, NC, and two grandchildren.
