John Tillett Obituary

John Franklin Tillett died on January 14, 2011 after a short battle with cancer.
John was born in Georgetown, SC on April 21, 1960. His family moved to Raleigh when he was two years old, where John lived until he graduated from Sanderson High School in 1978. After graduation, he pulled a hitch with the US Navy Seabees.
After his time in the service, John returned to school and graduated from North Carolina State University in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in Poultry Science. After graduation from NCSU, he moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia to work in the poultry industry. On March 4, 1989, he married Amy Smith Tillett and they lived in Elkton, Virginia.
In 2002, he moved back to North Carolina and lived with his wife and his parents on the Tillett homeplace in Mt. Tirzah from 2006 until his death on January 14, 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Amy Smith Tillett, his parents William Franklin and Janie Blalock Tillett, two sisters Sue Tillett Scruggs and Mary Ann Tillett McBride, three nephews, Thomas Andrew Scruggs, Alexander David Scruggs, Reade Lawrence McBride, and one niece, Melissa
Grace McBride.
John was an avid fisherman and loved both fresh and saltwater fishing.
The funeral service will be held on January 17, 2011 at 2 pm at Mt. Tirzah United Methodist Church in Timberlake, NC. The family will receive visitors at the church from 12:30 - 1:30 pm before the service. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Tirzah United Methodist Church, 4553 Surl-Mt. Tirzah Rd., Timberlake, NC, 27583.
