John H. Whitehurst, 69, of North Myrtle Beach, died on December 27th in Fredericksburg, VA.
He was born in Wilson, NC to the late Margaret and Warren Whitehurst. John graduated from UNC in 1967. He lived in the Cary/Raleigh area for most of his life.
John was a teacher for the majority of his career. Known to many as "Doc", he cherished his teaching days. Aside from his teaching tenure, he was a business owner.
Doc enjoyed the beach life and spending time close to the water. He loved the game of golf and coached it to many. He was inclined to outdoor adventures by traveling to mountains and parks across the country.
John enjoyed meeting and talking to people and was a good-hearted man that very much loved his family.
John is survived by his son, Ashley Whitehurst, and Carla Whitehurst. He is preceded in death by one son, Christopher Whitehurst.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with John during his tenure at McGee's Crossroads Elementary School and I am so saddened to hear of his passing. My sympathy and prayers to the family.

I will always remember my days on the golf team with Doc. He was the best coach I ever played for and an even better friend. He will be missed deeply but never forgotten.
