Joseph A. Farkas

Raleigh

Joseph A. Farkas, 84, Colonel, USA Retired Dental Corps passed from this Earth October 11, 2015 at Duke Raleigh Hospital.

Joe was born January 21, 1931 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He grew up in Memphis TN where he graduated with a DDS. He opened his first private practice in Sardis Tennessee and later joined the Army as an officer and served in the Dental Corps for 20 years retiring in 1979 having been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with bronze oak leaf cluster.

He resumed private practice in St. Louis, Missouri eventually moving his practice to Franklinton North Carolina. Ultimately, he retired to Louisburg to play golf, enjoy his many friendships, cooking and travel.

He was married to Kay Petty Farkas from April 30, 1960 until her passing in 2006. He found second love with Emily Donnelly and they were married on December 18, 2010.

He is preceded in death by parents, Joseph A. Farkas, Sr. and Ruby Gould Farkas, by sisters, Katherine Gerhard and Patsy Tew.

He is survived by his wife, Emily Donnelly Farkas; daughters, Elaina K. Cossin (Rene') Erika L. Hellerman (Erik); stepson, Paul Donnelly (Mary); grandchildren, Madeleine Cossin, Aidan Cossin; step-grandson, Casey Donnelly and beloved four legged companion Rex.

Visitation will be held in the home at 3620 Allendale Drive (Brentwood) Raleigh from 7-9 pm Tuesday October 13, 2015.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Wake County Animal Shelter.
