Joseph Futrell Obituary

Joseph Franklin Futrell, Jr., 81, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Fountains at the Albemarle in Tarboro.
Joe was born June 25, 1927 in Edgecombe County to the late Joseph F Futrell, Sr. and Ida B. Futrell.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rosa Lee Futrell and his brother Stanley B. Futrell
Joe served his country for 12 years in the North Carolina National Guard reaching the rank of first lieutenant. He was also a very active member for over 50 years at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Tarboro serving in capacities such as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director and Usher. Joe worked for many years at Seaboard Coastline Railroad and retired from Long Manufacturing Company after 30 years of devoted service. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Jean B. Futrell; two sisters, Jeanette Bradley and Carol Harrell, her husband Shelton, all of Tarboro; daughter, Elaine Mayo and her husband Ed of Conetoe; son, Mike Futrell and his wife, Gail of Raleigh; three grandsons, Corey Mayo, Casey Mayo and wife, Shannon and Christopher Futrell; step children, Stan Futrell, Pam Davis and Leslie Pittman; seven step grandchildren and his church family.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2009 at the First Pentecostal Church, 700 Howard Avenue, Tarboro, North Carolina 27886. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be prior to the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
At other times the family will be at the home of Elaine and Ed Mayo at 203 Church Street, Conetoe, NC 27819.

To all the family;
Brother Joe will be truly missed by all. He loved to sing in church choir.
I loved singing on the back row of the choir with Brother Joe. He love God, family and church family. He is now in heaven singing with Rose, Stanley and with my David. Lord bless you all. You are in my prayers

Though we may be separated by many miles, technology allows us to draw closer when situations dictate. I was proud to call Joe Futrell Jr. "Uncle" and was especially thankful for his appearance at both the viewing and funeral of my Mother in August. We have all lost another mighty fine person.
