Joseph E. Knoll

Joseph Edwin Knoll died on June 15, 2009, after a brief illness. Joe was born in Long Island, NY, on November 29, 1926. He served in the Navy in WWII. He received a BS from Queens College, NY and a MS and Ph.D. from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He taught and did chemistry research in Boston for several years. He married Elvira Marchionno in 1963. The Knolls moved to Cary, in 1974, where Joe was employed by the EPA. He found great satisfaction in this work with his church, Christ the King Lutheran Church of Cary. He was also a member of the Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, Elvira. Funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2009 at Apex Funeral Home. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Durham.
