Juanita Spivey Obituary
Mildred Juanita Spivey Floyd, 94, passed away peacefully on October 7th, 2025 at Avendelle Assisted Living in Cary, NC, surrounded by her family.
Juanita's life was marked by a deep commitment to her family and her church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She is reunited in heaven with her husband of 63 years, Bob Burton Floyd. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Estelle Evans Spivey and Walter Roland Spivey, and her siblings WB, Rowland, Betty Ruth, Ann, Sarah, Bobby, Tom and Dan. She is survived by her children, Bob Burton Floyd II (Angela), Walter Mac Floyd (Cindy Schauer), and Timothy Wayne Floyd (Lisa); grandchildren, Mac Floyd (Celeste), Chris Floyd (Sarah), Daniel Floyd (Louise), Melissa Pate (Matt), Tyler Floyd (Juliette), and Alex Haikonen (Fernanda Baldelomar); and great-grandchildren Elle, Easton, Annabelle, Aubrey, Eleanor, and Matthew. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law Ann Spivey.
Juanita was born on January 13th, 1931 on the Evans Farm in Robeson County, NC. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Coker College and her Master of Education from UNC–Chapel Hill, laying the foundation for a 36-year career in education. She served as a math teacher, guidance counselor, Personnel Director for Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools, and later worked with the NC Department of Education.
She and Bob raised their family in Chapel Hill, spent many years in Lake View, and later returned to Chapel Hill. A devout Christian, Juanita was a member of University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill and Bear Swamp Baptist Church in Lake View. She was also a devoted Tar Heel fan who rarely missed a game and traveled across the country and abroad to cheer on her beloved UNC teams. She will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her love of family, her passion for education and community, and her lifelong devotion to God.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Bear Swamp Baptist Church in Lake View, South Carolina. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
