Judith Ising Obituary

Judith "Judy" Gerrein Ising, 61, a retired attorney, died of ALS (Lou Gehrig>s disease) on March 13, 2005 in her Fearrington Village, North Carolina, home. Formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Denver, Colorado, San Francisco, California, and Vienna, Virginia, Mrs. Ising was born in Newport, Kentucky in 1943, and graduated from Thomas More College in 1965. Mrs. Ising received a law degree from Golden Gate University in 1985, andpracticed law in Northern Virginia until retiring to Fearrington Village in 1998. Mrs. Ising led a courageous battle against ALS the last two years, aided by the love and support of her husband, her family and her many friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Ising was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
Mrs. Ising is survived by her husband of 39 years, Paul D. Ising of Fearrington Village, North Carolina; a daughter and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth A. Ising and Mary Kate Cullen, of Bethesda, Maryland; a son and daughter-in-law, Theodore D. Ising and Amy I. Ising, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; grandchildren, Elena V. Ising, Conor P. Cullen-Ising and Peter McClure Ising; and two brothers, Thomas Gerrein of Bellevue, Kentucky and JohnGerrein of Winchester, Massachusetts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Olive Gerrein of Newport, Kentucky.
A funeral mass will be held at the Newman Catholic Student Center Parish at 218 Pittsboro Street in Chapel Hill on Friday, March 18 at 1 p.m.
Family and friends will be received at a celebration of life at 4 p.m. at The Gathering Place in Fearrington Village.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Ising's name to The Jim "Catfish" Hunter ALS Chapter, 1425-113 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, NC 27610 or www.catfishchapter.org.
Arrangements by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas.
