Kaye Byrd Obituary

Kaye Lee Byrd

April 4, 1949 – December 17, 2015

Cary

And just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone," there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!" ~Henry Van Dyke

Kaye Lee Byrd passed in peace and warmth at the home where she had resided with her loving daughter Heather Byrd Rodgers, son in law Jason Rodgers, grandchildren Rowan Elayna Rodgers and Sunny Reece Rodgers, and Herbie, her rescued furry family. She is also survived and will be greatly missed by her ex-husband and best friend, Reece Byrd, her sister Peggy Freeman of Jacksonville, Florida, and her much loved nieces, Kathy and Joyce, and many other friends and family members too numerous to name. The family is greatly consoled by the fact that she had always expressed complete happiness at being cared for in their home during her long illness, where she was surrounded by her family and friends.

The family is further comforted by the knowledge that Kaye has been welcomed by loving family on the other side, including her parents Retta and Herbert Lee, previously of Four Oaks; several siblings; and most of all, by her beloved daughter Elayna Michelle Byrd, who predeceased her.

Kaye worked for the Parole Commission, NC Dept of Corrections in Raleigh for 25 years, but will be most remembered for her amazing strength, will to live, and great love for family and animals, many of which she adopted over her lifetime. A Memorial Service with Visitation will be announced on the Browne Wynne Funeral Home of Cary website, and held after the holidays, on December 29th, 11:00 am, at the Western Boulevard Presbyterian

Church, 4900 Kaplan Dr, Raleigh, NC 27606. A memorial book will also be available at Browne Wynne for those who would prefer to stop by and leave a note there for Heather and her family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wake County SPCA, Lupus Foundation, or Rex Cancer Center would be appreciated.

Kaye will forever be part of our family...I am so grateful that she was able to spend her last years with Heather, my son Jason, and her two beloved granddaughters. She was so happy to be with them, and fought hard to get back home as quickly as possible each time she had to be in the hospital. We have all been blessed by knowing such a strong and loving woman.

Kaye has been a part of my family and in my life since I was a teenager. Im fact we "dragged" main in Benson, NC, we wore each others outfits (most were hers) then she married my baby brother. She was lots of fun, read every book published and until I had my son did the greatest gift of sharing the twins with me. I was with
them thanks to her lots of time for the first six years of their life and they were the "girls" I never had and she remained in the life of the Byrds thru all these years as a friend and and great Mother and Grandmother to our wonderful niece and "grand" nieces! She had to be a warrior in her life as she had many things that would have taken many down long ago. She fought a good fight and was always smiling when I did see her. Never once did she complain or feel sorry for herself in my presence but made you feel better. My love and sympathy are extended to my sweet "Heather" and her family and her Dad. Kaye has left us this time but she will always be with us thru the beloved family she left behind. Aunt Wanda
