Kaye Hale Obituary

Kaye Calhoun Hale
November 8, 1941 - June 9, 2023
Charlotte, North Carolina - Kaye Calhoun Hale of Chapel Hill and Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully in Charlotte on Friday, June 9th, surrounded by family. Kaye was a beloved mother, wife, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was born November 8, 1941 in Atlanta, GA to Odell Conrad Calhoun and Lola Hill Calhoun and was raised in Thomasville, NC. She is survived by her adoring grandchildren, Robert Andrew Hale, Jr., Frances Sewell Hale, Jayne Morgan Hale and Lilly Calhoun Hale, her sons Robert Andrew Hale, Sr. of Indialantic, FL (wife Eleanor) and Patrick Calhoun Hale of Charlotte, NC (wife Kati) and loving brother Andrew Conrad Calhoun of Charlotte, NC (wife Joann). She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Leslie Morgan Hale, Jr. and her beloved son, Leslie Morgan Hale III.
Kaye graduated from Peace College in Raleigh, NC. Upon graduating she moved to Chapel Hill where she worked at UNC Hospital's Hand Center. She and Morgan made Chapel Hill their home for more than 45 years and in that time she cherished her membership in the Gay Rakes Garden Club, the friendships from her Bridge club and an extremely close circle of friends. Rarely a Christmas would go by when she wasn't preparing 10 or 12 delicious smoked hams as gifts to her close friends. She and Morgan loved entertaining and their dinner parties were always special gatherings to celebrate wonderful friendships. As much as she loved Chapel Hill she and the family also enjoyed spending time at their home in Atlantic Beach, NC. For over 40 years the "Tar Landing" home has always been and will continue to be a source of relaxation, family togetherness and, most importantly, memories.
As a wife, Kaye was loving, caring and supportive. Morgan was the love of her life and she cherished their 45 years of marriage. Together they raised 3 sons and she was truly beloved by each of her boys. She was always giving, always compassionate and always patient. As "Granmommy" she loved her grandchildren with all of her heart and they loved her. Nothing in the world made her more proud or brought her more joy and happiness than her grandchildren. Our family is so fortunate to have been loved by such a caring, generous and selfless person.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, August 26th at 10:00 AM at University Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be sent to UNC Health Foundation, Attn: Lineberger Cancer Center, PO Box 1050, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 or The Family House at UNC Hospitals, 123 Old Mason Farm Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27517
